Akram Al-Najjar

As a Libyan journalist witnessing rapid events, I am often overwhelmed by unanswered questions that stir both confusion and ambition within me.

I am Akram Al-Najjar, a freelance journalist holding a master’s degree in criminal law.

After the February 17th revolution, I began my professional journey stably. I underwent many government experiences during that period. I admit that I gained a lot of experience, but this calm path never truly expressed the passion of the journalist within me that was always searching for the humanitarian defender in me.

I took a moment to gather my courage. It was time to break free from the routine and embark on a new adventure, hoping to find my lost self. Thus I began participating in human rights training in several Arab countries and got involved with international and local organizations to gain knowledge of media, hence turning from legal files and criminal events to the platforms of journalism and political events.

Not only did I take part in these events to develop my skills but also during each discussion, I couldn't help but wonder “Why?” there isn't a media alternative in Libya that upholds journalistic standards of integrity, independence, and freedom of expression. An alternative that contributes to making Libyans understand their rights, especially those related to power and governance.

Hence, launching the “Alash” platform in 2022. A project through which I yearned to create a new journalistic style in Libya, presenting the news in an analytical and interpretive manner that pushed the reader to think and discuss without taking sides.

I hope for this platform to be a cornerstone for creating a quality media environment, not subject to government authority or control, and far from all forms of dependency, but the question is, can this be achieved in Libya?
