Muhammed Baraa Almahdi

My life took a complete turn when I was forced by circumstances to leave my home nation and family behind in the search for a reliable source of income. At that moment, I began my voyage of wandering from Syria to Sudan and finally settling in Libya. The journey took work!

My name is “Muhammed Baraa Almahdi" I'm Syrian and work as an Automotive mechanic.

I forgot what it's like to live in stability, and my life abruptly flipped upside down, all owing to the doings of war in Syria. The labor market was lacking in job opportunities, not to mention the deterioration in our financial state made it even more difficult for us to live in stable conditions, but leaving my family with no one there to care for them and attain their needs was the hardest thing to do. But as the saying goes, "a man does not attain all his heart's desires for the winds do not blow as the vessels wish," so my journey of finding a better life for my family and I has begun. The goodbye was the hardest but needed.

My first destination was Sudan, a country that has welcomed many Syrian refugees, including myself; job opportunities, as well as safety and security, were abundant there, and so for four years, I took refuge there, but when the country's economic situation started to go south, I decided to leave and head towards Libya; without taking into account the hardships I would stumble upon in my journey, it took me 2 days to make it to Libya, at first I took a plane from Sudan's airport to Istanbul airport, and then I took a second plane from Borg El Arab international airport in Egypt to finally reach my destination; Tripoli.

Since moving here, I haven't encountered any significant challenges. I started looking for a job, and as soon as I did, I started working as a car mechanic. Everyone here has been incredibly kind to me, and I've never felt like an intruder. I've even made several friends and acquaintances willing to lend a hand whenever possible.

And now that the ongoing civil war in Syria has lasted for more than ten years returning home is unthinkable. Thus I'm working towards settling in Libya to bring my family to live with me, away from the ongoing violent conflict and the constant fear they are in.
