Ahmed Salah

Despite my hardships in Syria, I graduated from nursing school, which I had always dreamt of doing. I was eager to start practising this great human profession. Unfortunately, the war had other ideas.

My name is Ahmed Salah. I'm 27 years old, and I work as a barber.

The war peaked in “Al-Hasakah,” which wrecked my hopes and dreams. Leaving was the only way to survive. I headed to Lebanon, forgetting all the obstacles. After staying for a year, the economic crisis in Lebanon had worsened, and job opportunities were close to none. I, therefore, decided to leave immediately.

I travelled to Libya without knowing what life was hiding for me there. At first, I was terrified because the news stated that the security situation was deteriorating. However, I soon overcame my fear and made up my mind.

I arrived in Tripoli and had many challenges adjusting to this new place. However, I never felt alienated, as everyone treated me nicely. I worked hard on honing and developing my skills as a barber - my previous profession in Lebanon. I loved this job, was passionate, and didn't do it just to earn money. I then applied to work at one of the best barbershops in Tripoli, where I was accepted immediately.

After spending over a year in Libya, I've become successful as a barber. I have received high reviews and excelled over my professional peers. But I will not stop here. I will always aspire for more.

I was able to fit in, make friends, and adjust to the new routine here. I hope and pray that Libya survives all the wars and corruption. So that it doesn't experience what Syria went through. In addition, to remaining a welcoming environment and a safe destination for everyone.
